Plan It Quickstart - Part 2 - Resources and Milestones
Part 2 of the Plan It quickstart explains how to create resources and milestones and add them to your plan.
Step 1 - Create Resources
To create a new resource use the + button on the resource palette as below:-

This will create a resource called 'New Resource'. To change the name of the resource double click the resource and the resource window will open. Change the name of the resource to 'Bob Smith' and set the rate of the resource to 50.

Staying in the Resource window use the + button to add another resource 'Jane Jones'

Close the resource window.
Step 2 - Add resource to your Plan
To add the resource to the plan click and drag Bob Smith from the resource palette to 'Draw Design' task bar on the plan. Bob is now assigned to 'Draw Design.
Quick Tip - You can also drag people directly from your Mac's address book to assign them to tasks.
Dragging resource is great for adding resource to the odd task here and there but more often that not you will want to add resource to multiple tasks at one time. To add a resource to multiple tasks then you need to firstly select the resource in the resource palette. Next you need to select all the tasks on the plan you want to add the resource too. To do this just Control-click (or shift click for groups) in the table to multi select the tasks. Select the tasks as shown:-

Now use the 'Assign Resource' option in the resource menu to assign the resource to all the selected tasks. Your plan should now look like this:-

Step 3 - Create Milestones
Milestones can be placed on the plan to mark key events.
To create milestones you need to use the Milestone Inspector:-

Press the add button to add a new milestone. Milestones in Planit can be made on a fixed date or relative to tasks. For the quick start we will make the milestones relative to tasks so leave the fixed milestone checkbox unchecked. Set the name of the milestone to 'Phase 1' using the text field as below:-

Step 4 - Add milestones to your Plan
Select task 8 and press the add to task button and you will see the milestone displayed on the plan against task 8.
Quick Tip - You can attach a milestone to multiple tasks and it will show against the latest finishing task.
You can check the milestones attached to a task by looking at the detail tab of the task inspector.

Step 5 - Basic Tracking
To track the completion of tasks you can change the percentage complete in table or the plan view.
Make task 1 50% complete by typing 50 into the table % column.
In the plan view you need to click drag on the left centre on the task to drag out the percentage completion:-

This is the end of the Quickstart tutorial. We are currently creating more tutorials to look at some of the more advance features of Planit, these will appear on the Invoax website.
